Renting an Apartment in Dhaka: A Practical Checklist
From shortlisting and viewings to deposits and handover, use this checklist to rent with fewer surprises.
Renting in Dhaka moves quickly, but speed should not replace verification. Set a total monthly budget, choose a realistic travel area, and write down your non-negotiables before contacting listings.
Calculate the real monthly cost
Ask separately about rent, service charge, parking, utilities, generator charges, security deposits, and any agent fee. Confirm which bills are shared and how they are calculated.
Read the agreement carefully
The agreement should identify the parties and property, state the rent and deposit, explain payment dates, notice periods, renewal, repairs, guest or pet rules, and the process for returning the deposit. Record any fixtures supplied with the unit.
Make handover measurable
- Photograph rooms, fittings, meters, and existing damage.
- Record meter readings and the number of keys received.
- Confirm outstanding utility and service-charge balances.
- Get signed acknowledgement of deposit and advance payments.
Keep one digital folder for the agreement, receipts, inspection photos, and the owner's contact information.
